K-Town set to host U.S. men’s soccer match on March 1

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Are you ready for some football?
The U.S. men’s national soccer team will play the Polish national squad at 8 p.m. on March 1 at Kaiserslautern’s Fritz-Walter Stadium.
And Americans living throughout Germany will get the first shot at purchasing tickets for the game, which will be televised live in the United States on ESPN2. Starting at 10 a.m. Central European Time on Thursday, visit www.fck.de/usa-poland.php to buy tickets. Prices range from 15 to 125 euros.
“We want to give the American fans out there the chance to get the first tickets,” said Jim Moorhouse, spokesman for the U.S. Soccer Federation.
On Feb. 2, tickets go on sale for everyone at FC Kaiserslautern fan shops and the Fritz-Walter Stadium ticket office (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). By phone, call either 0631-316-8921 or 01-805-3188-00.
“The game against Poland accomplishes a number of goals for our preparation for the World Cup,” said U.S. men’s team manager Bruce Arena in a news release. “We get the opportunity to play a European opponent, and we have a chance to play in the stadium where we will face Italy in the World Cup in June. It gives our players the ability to familiarize themselves with the venue.”
The U.S. national team plays Italy on June 17 in Kaiserslautern during the World Cup, which is the world’s premier soccer tournament taking place this year in Germany.
With World Cup tickets hard to come by, the March 1 game may be the best chance for the tens of thousands of Americans living in Germany to see the U.S. soccer team in action.
The March 1 game will be a great appetizer for the U.S.’s World Cup match in Kaiserslautern, said Steve Pelletier, acting director for the U.S. Army’s Morale Welfare and Recreation in the Kaiserslautern military community.
“It’s going to be nice to have them in our backyard, and it’ll be nice to watch at least one game if I can’t get tickets to the World Cup,” he said.

USA - Polen zieht an. Schon am ersten Vorverkaufstag wurden in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Sitz der US Air-Base, über 3000 Karten für das Länderspiel USA gegen Polen am 1. März im Fritz-Walter-Stadion verkauft. Darüber informierte Rene· C. Jäggi, der Vorstandsvorsitzende des 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Polen ist bei der WM Gruppengegner der deutschen Mannschaft, die USA tragen ein Gruppenspiel in der Pfalz aus. (zkk)
